In this sixth edition of Talks@Algebra, our lecturers will describe the use of the blockchain technology in cryptocurrency mining. The new currencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin have valuations worth billions of dollars and have become useful for the purchase of goods and services. We will also discuss practical applications of blockchains in industries ranging from banking to health care.
A vision of the future use of the technology will be proposed to generate participant discussion of the topic.
This public lecture will describe recent developments in the use of blockchain technology. A blockchain is a digital ledger of transactions that is shared across computers by any participant with access to the database. There are significant advantages to this type of ledger including high security, the consensus of authenticity, and a complete record of all transactions that cannot be altered without an agreement by users.
